How to choose an online English teacher: a 7-point checklist
There are many online English teachers. The best one for you is the one who fits your goal, your level and your schedule. Use this checklist before you book.
1. Write down your goal
"Speak more confidently at work", "IELTS for university" and "English for my 8-year-old" need different teachers. Keep your goal in mind when you read profiles.
2. Check the teacher's subjects
Look for your goal in what the teacher teaches: conversation, business English, exam preparation, kids' English and so on. On Teacher4.me you can search by skill, for example IELTS or business.
3. Read reviews from other students
Reviews show how a teacher really teaches: patience, preparation, feedback. Read several, not just the first one.
4. Watch or read about their teaching style
Some teachers are structured with materials and homework; some focus on free conversation. Choose the style that keeps you motivated.
5. Think about native speaker vs. bilingual teacher
A native English speaker is great for natural conversation and pronunciation. A teacher who also speaks your language can help beginners understand grammar. You can filter by nationality and language.
6. Compare price and packages
Every teacher sets their own price. Compare prices and packages on profiles and pick something you can keep paying for: regular lessons matter more than one perfect lesson.
7. Start with a trial or first lesson
If a teacher offers a trial, use it. After the first lesson ask yourself: did I speak a lot? Did I get clear corrections? Do I want another lesson?
Ready? Open the teacher list, shortlist three teachers and message them.
