How much English practice do you need to improve?

Learners often ask how many lessons they need. The honest answer: it depends on your level, your goal and how much you practise between lessons. But some rules are true for almost everyone.

Regular beats intense

Short, regular practice usually works better than one long session now and then. A fixed weekly lesson time helps you keep going.

Practise between lessons

  • Review your teacher's corrections the next day.
  • Use new phrases in a message or a short recording.
  • Listen to English you enjoy: podcasts, series, YouTube.

Set a goal with a date

"Pass my IELTS speaking test in spring" or "lead a meeting in English" gives you and your teacher something clear to plan for.

Ask your teacher for a plan

After your first lesson, your teacher can suggest how often to meet and what to practise for your goal and schedule.
